How to reduce carbon emissions in events?
Improve efficiency, reuse and reduce activities
Idea: Exploit the locations of previous similar events, whether physical (equipment, stands, prints...) or virtual (platform, servers, data...).
Avoid carbon-intensive activities and behaviors
Idea: Avoid long travel for speakers and participants to attend an event.
Emissions that cannot be eliminated by the above means are offset or sequestered.
Idea: Provide for a carbon offset system. This could be done through a reward mechanism or a system for generating carbon credits that could be traded on a market place.
Low-carbon alternatives should be used to replace high-carbon activities or sources.
Idea: Plan hybrid events that combine the best of both words: virtual and physical; also prioritize local experts, speakers and VIPs for the physical setting and use digital to gain scalability.
